The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society
The fastest-growing voluntary health
organization with a nationwide presence. The Society’s
mission is to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease
and myeloma, and to improve the quality of life of patients and
their families. Every nine minutes, another child or adult is
expected to die from a blood related cancer. Every five minutes
someone in the US learns that they have a blood cancer. But,
cure rates are constantly improving and this society uses 89%
of EVERY dollar for research and financial aid. The annual Man
& Woman of the Year competition is a spirited competition
between nominated professionals in the community judged on
philanthropic success in generating funds for The Leukemia
& Lymphoma Society during an eight-week-period. Funds are
obtained through contributions on their behalf and community
donations to the Society’s silent & live auction.

The members of the WNC Parrot Head Club
supported Gail’s campaign. Funds were raised by hosting a
Bowl-A-Thon, complete with island sounds, compliments of Steve
Weams & The Caribbean Cowboys
Band, as well as a silent auction at the annual
Anniversary Celebration. A benefit concert was also held at Smokey Shadows Lodge in Maggie Valley, NC. Guitarist and
vocalist Peter Mayer and The Spare Tire Orchestra donated a
portion of the proceeds from a two-day event to this campaign.
